It was my birthday last month. Tradition says it’s my “last” birthday. The “39 and holding” has arrived. And to think I started as this wee little thing. (Looks like my daughter’s baby picture!)
Luckily this year I was able to spend my birthday with two of my girlfriends from Petra School and Covenant Creek. What an amazingly blessed time we had! Although Angie kept talking about how it wasn’t festive, birthday-ish … to me, it was PERFECT.
I have felt old for months. Dumpy. Unattractive. Prompted by a request for a profile picture AND Angie’s own makeover, I decided to make a change yesterday.
Angie and I headed to Jalea’s Salon and Spa. At first I was only going to have her trim my hair and style it for the pictures. But as I sat in the chair I lost my fear.
Do what you want.
Even with the amount she cut off, I have a lot of hair. So I agreed to layer and thin my hair. What a difference! The weight on my head feels SO much better!
Yes that’s Angie in the background rocking her own new look!
At this point, I could stop. But I decided – go ahead. Let’s make a change. I agreed to color my hair. GULP. It’s been probably at least 8 years since my blonde stage. I still shudder at pictures of my horribly washed out hair. I knew I didn’t want to do that again. Jalea is amazing. She matched my own hair color to the coloring. Then we went a shade darker with a hint of red. It’s called Carmel Pecan. I giggled. (It doesn’t smell nearly as good as it sounds!)
Time spent under the dryer. (NO, I’m not showing *THOSE* pictures. Although they are pretty hilarious. Then it was reveal time. I gasped. Ok it is DARK. But beautiful. And my hair was SHINY! I can’t remember the last time my hair felt this pretty! I couldn’t help but smile. And I think that’s the point to getting your hair done.
Because I wanted a nice picture for my profile I asked Jalea to do a facial makeover also. I think the results turned out pretty nice.
But it’s not me…it doesn’t reflect my personality…so off to the beach we went.
The wind messed up my hair. And the sun was just a pain. So we went to the place we should have went first. The Lake. Angie’s Lake. The place I love to be.
This. This is what 39 looks like. Happy.
Of course I owe it all to my FABULOUS friend Miss Angie who hooked me up with Jalea. SO…guess where I now need to regularly visit? <G>
