Finding a Balance: Weighing the Diets of Today
There’s a lot weighing on my mind. Literally. I don’t NORMALLY like to talk about my husband. For one, he doesn’t like it. He prefers his privacy. And for the most part I respect that. But lately things have become…well…heavy around here. We’ve talked about changing things. We’ve talked and talked and talked…and finally, we have to DO something.
My husband’s health needs a change. My health needs a change. Our children need us to make changes. This isn’t about losing weight (although that will be a bonus). This isn’t about trying to be the young skinny people we once were. This isn’t even about trying to look better. This is about our health. It’s serious and something needs to be done.
In an effort to make a decision I have spent the last week reading blog sites, twitter feeds and books. For a bunch of different diets: Paleo, DASH, Trim Healthy Mama, The Zone. My head is STILL spinning. Carbs are good. Carbs are bad. Fat is good. Fat is bad. Eat meat. Don’t eat meat. More grains. Less Grains. No Grains. More fruit. No fruit. No Dairy. No Wheat. No sugar. No Potatoes, corns or legumes. Basically. Food sucks. It will kill you. Sigh.
I haven’t even decided on a diet and I’m ready to quit! Which leads me to the point. The point is not to find a diet. The point is to find a way of eating that allows our unique bodies to flourish and heal. So, we have made a decision. We are seeking professional help. I’m not sure what the future holds, but tomorrow I certainly find out.
I started this post as a way to balance all the voices yelling at me. For some reason I did not finish it last night. Today, God answered the prayer for us. Through a bible study at 6 in the morning. Wow…he does amazing things.
One thing I do know about food and losing weight and trying to balance it is that I need to use moderation. As it says ins Philippians 4:5 – Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand. (KJV).
So, we’ll see what tomorrow brings for us and what it brings to this blog. Stay tuned! (As always I am an ever-changing human)
