Did you know that in what I consider desert, there is a 60′ foot waterfall? The area is called Jump Creek. It is a popular destination for hiking, horseback riding, and off-roading. Located of US-95 outside Marsing, Idaho this place is definitely worth a day trip. My niece took us Monday for a hike. I was thrilled to find a new place that I had never seen before!
The road is gravel and dusty. The road down to the parking lot is a MESS! We were bouncing and heaving all over the place!
The hike begins at a gravel area. There are a few spots for picnicking along the tiny creek. Bring plenty of sun screen, water and a camera!
The girls were ready to go and we started – Mom with camera in hand.
I was side-tracked by flowers, thorns, geological wonders. I kept stopping and taking pictures.
The girls stopped for me. At this point we went downhill across the creek and back uphill again. With the last part being along rocks & creek, this hike was easy. The reward: a waterfall!
The Boy decided to the right of the waterfall was more exciting. After all, why settle for a simple and easy trail when you can climb up the side of a steep, sandy slope to find a cave.
Even better: making your mom climb the sandy slope to take your picture.
Overall, a fun day. A fun hike. And on the way back we were able to see a popular landmark in the Marsing, Idaho area.
Lizard Butte. Unfortunately it is now closed to hikers. But you can visit for the annual Easter Sunrise service. Hmmm.
