A little girl sits on the floor in front of a large cabinet, home of her favorite device. She picks up a familiar package and pulls out the record. A simple round black piece of vinyl. Magical. She places it on the player. Gently puts the needle down onto the groove. And just like that, she’s swept away to a place in her mind…
I listened to John Denver for HOURS. I memorized the songs. I would sing them to myself whenever I was lonely, bored, scared, sad. Even today, hearing his sweet gentle voice calms me like nothing else.
But it’s this song…the song about sunshine that makes me remember and smile.
If I had a tale that I could tell you
I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I’d make a wish for sunshine all the while
Sunshine. And as I sit here in my kitchen on a cloudy, misty Oregon morning, I long to feel the sun shine again. In my heart. And I know it will.
