My daughter has been riding English style for about a year. About a month ago we began to lease a horse for her to ride. A beautiful Thoroughbred/Mustang horse named Destiny. It’s been amazing to watch her riding skills improve now that she’s riding four times a week. I have actually become attached to this beautiful mare.
In the past Missy rode one of the lesson ponies to the show. This would be the first show where she was on her own horse! I wanted to make sure she enjoyed (while learning) the entire process. On Thursday before the show we drove to the barn to help groom Destiny. What a job!
A Horse Named Destiny
Destiny was not very patient. Finally her trainer (Sara) asked Missy to hold her other leg while she shaved her hair. Eventually, Destiny began to stomp her hoof and let us know she wasn’t happy. At one point Sara had to put Destiny in her place! Finally the grooming was done and it was time for a bath!
We purchased a bottle of Quic Silver shampoo for Destiny. Missy was surprised to find it was a deep purple. She asked me why we were using purple dye on the horse. Sara explained that you just need to scrub until the purple turns into a lavender foam. After waiting a few minutes we rinsed the shampoo from her hocks. Oh my goodness! Destiny had the brightest white legs! Unfortunately this made her spots look a dingy white, but we love her anyway!
After we removed the excess water, we took her back to the grooming area for her blanket. A tuck in goodnight and a kiss from Missy and she was ready for the show!
Before I end this post, I’ll share some horse love with you!
