On Tuesday we packed our trunk with goodies for lunch, a change of clothes, books and videos, drug leashed Sir Tucker Jo, found mom’s cell phone and set off for a fun day with our friends from Petra School, Wonder in the Woods and Covenant Creek. Lincoln City is 95 miles. It takes approximately 2 hours to get there. Still, when you are heading there to see friends, it’s not a long road.
The only disappointing thing is that we did not leave early enough to stop and see our cousins in Garibaldi. That’s going to be another trip to the beach soon!
We spent the first half of the day playing in the lake, learning to find our place in the great circle of life, praying for one another and just loving the fact that we can get together and share God’s creation.
It’s becoming a tradition.
I love how I could relax while the kids ran through the woods, in and out of the lake, up to Miss JoDana’s. Why? Because they have learned how to be responsible for one another. It’s not a bad thing. It’s very good. They know mom is there if they need help. But, they get to be their own person. In charge of their own destiny for 2-3 hours. Rules are there only for their safety and they follow them. In some ways, I envy my dear friend…
I was amazed that I didn’t hear ONE “Mom, I’m bored.” It’s amazing. Nature is the best playground a child needs. Isn’t our God a wonderful parent? He gave his creation such an amazing place to grow in, live, love, laugh…
After an afternoon of water, fish and slimy slugs (YUCK!) we headed to Mo’s for clam chowder and onion rings. But not the Mo’s in Lincoln City. NOPE. We head to old Newport boardwalk for the ORIGINAL MOS!
The kids were getting antsy while the moms chatted about life, kids and our favorite subject: the Lord. So, we decided to head to the candy shop next door. I don’t know who had more fun, the kids or the moms.
Afterwards we spent the rest of the day on the docks. We learned about sea lions, ships, moon jellyfish, caring for one another and how to be an example to those younger than us.
I decided to stay the night and not drive home to Portland…I’ll share Day 2 a little later. We are off to the Portland Mounted Police stables today!
Meet the other moms!
Enjoy my favorite pictures from the day!
